Volunteer Coordinator

Working at Rorshok means connecting people with where they live and with each other.

Who are we and what do we stand for?

Rorshok is a US-based mission-driven international startup pursuing new ways to connect people with where they live and with each other. Rorshok is many things but at its heart, it is an experiment in international community building. Revenue but not profit seeking. Dispersed but anchored. Focused but flexible.

The heart of Rorshok’s work is the production of ten minute English language podcast updates that are written in a particular country about what is happening there, the traditional things that are called news, what is being discussed, politics, culture. They are extremely concise and accurate but informal, by people on the ground for people on the ground but interesting and available to all.

We are now searching for a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator to join our Rorshok community. Essentially, as a Volunteer Coordinator you will manage and oversee individual volunteers that work on each of the country specific updates. We hope to build a big team of volunteers in the upcoming months and we need somebody who can help us guide them, oversee their activities and make sure that these volunteers stay motivated. One of the main tasks of the volunteers is to promote these updates on various social media platforms and reach out to potential listeners abroad via email (eg. professors, journalists, exchange students, associations, and others).

Each volunteer will be responsible for a different update covering a different country. They will be in charge of the research for potential listeners and different target groups but also the promotion of updates on various social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc.

This is a great opportunity for somebody with significant management experience who has taken a break and is now looking to rejoin the workforce.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee a group of volunteers for (semi-flexible) 3-5 hours a day
    • Manage the workload of the volunteers
      • Different volunteers will take care of different updates
    • Oversee their schedules
    • Keep them motivated and guided
    • Be available for volunteers’ questions
  • Track volunteers’ results (number of listeners on each update)
  • Organize weekly meetings for volunteers
    • The goal is to keep the volunteers engaged, motivated and guided
      • Call out their successes based on their results (number of listeners)
      • Sharing knowledge between all participants of the meeting
  • Work together with the team on the strategy for Rorshok and possible areas of improvement.
  • Be an active member of the team.

Over time, as we grow and hire more volunteers, we would like to have more coordinators as well. Therefore, a successful candidate will eventually oversee several coordinators.

Your Experience and Requirements

  • You have previous management and leadership experience
  • You know how to use Google Docs
  • You are proactive and like to take initiative

  • You are a self-starter able to work remotely
  • You possess good judgment
  • You are able to work in a team

  • Previous experience working with volunteers is a plus

How to apply?

  • Send an email to mahnoor.haroon@rorshok.com with an updated CV and/or LinkedIn link and briefly explain why you want to join our Rorshok family as a Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Give us a few days to get back to you with feedback. If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please email mahnoor.haroon@rorshok.com

This is a volunteer position. Rorshok is in practice a non-profit. Normally in the US, this means a 501c3 designation with the IRS that Rorshok does not have because the compliance requirements are more than we can handle. That said, we only have four full time employees each of whom make $600 per month and only one of whom is in the US. Our vision is that via subscription and other methods we can get the revenue scale internationally, but we must keep our expenditures extremely low in order to avoid having to advertise. That is why we hope the volunteer coordinator will be a volunteer. Questions about this are welcome.
