Deshittification Positions
You probably know what enshittification is by now. Online platforms start out useful, attract users, and then gradually become worse as their owners find more ways to extract money from everyone. It's maddening, and it affects more and more of our lives. We think people would be happier if they could deshittify their lives by moving away from these platforms and finding better alternatives. We want to help make that easier, with practical advice, tools, and ways for people to make the transition together. We'd love some help.
This would be roughly an hour a day. Take a look, and if it interests you, send us an email at [email protected] with the heading in the subject line. Sending an email doesn't mean you're “applying” for this position, it just means you may be interested and would like to discuss it.
Deshittification Coordinator
Increasingly, we live our digital lives on enshittified, oligarchic, venture-capital-funded platforms. But there are a million ways to deshittify. We want someone to lead the creation of practical advice on replacing corporate platforms with open protocols and better alternatives, and communicate those ideas through social media, especially showing people how to leave those very platforms. Ideally, you're enthusiastic about FOSS (free and open-source software), digitally savvy, organized, sociable, comfortable on camera, and able or eager to learn how to make engaging Reels and TikTok videos. Will be fun.
